Maxime Vachier-Lagrave won the 2012 SPICE Cup in St.Louis with a score of 6/10.

The 6-player double round-robin competition at Webster University was a closely fought affair, with only a few decisive games but lots of fighting chess.

The Frenchman tweeted: "I finally won the SPICE Cup. Pretty happy with my overall performance, I had a little bit of luck in some games, was pressing in others.  My performance in the second half of the tournament was much more convincing, even though my only win happened in the game I was in danger".

Ding Liren and last year's winner Le Quang Liem shared second place with 5½/10.

Cheer Maxim, you are really a large GMI, and in France like all over the world, you're our honnor. Thanks for the news.

Actually, there were 7 decisive games - the other one was Meier beating Ding Liren in round two (included in the previous report).

Still, not many, but the draws were far from boring.

6 games listed, 6 decisive results.

You're right Elubas! 6/30 decisive results, that's terrible!

Maxime's victory against So was the first loss of the Filipino against a 2700 player after so many years!

Maxime's game against Meier was messy but entertaining.

Maxime's game against Meier was a large pile of veiled threats, pins and skewers. Very aggressive black play.
