Sergey Karjakin and Alexandra Kosteniuk won the blitz sections of the SportAccord Mind Games.

Karjakin dominated the blitz competition, scoring +12 =1 -2 to win with 12½ points, a full 1½ points clear of Hikaru Nakamura in second place. That's the second silver medal for the US champ, having achieved the same position in the rapid section two days ago.  Shakhriyar Mamedyarov took the bronze medal ahead of Lev Aronian and rapid section winner Laurent Fressinet.

Alexandra Kosteniuk took the gold in the women's blitz competition on superior tie-breaks form Anna Muzychuk. Elisabeth Paehtz took bronze on tie-breaks from Humpy Koneru.

The blitz time control was 3 minutes plus a 2 second increment.

Nice to see Kosteiuk on top in a tournament.  On the flip side Anna Zatonskih has had one bad year.

Karjakin will be a top threat to Carlsen in Candidates Matches. Nakamura is strong enough to be a Candidate.

I'm sure it was time trouble but isn't 39.Qg8 checkmate in Kosteniuk v. Muzychuk?

Perhaps rating performance? Or maybe they're rapid ratings.

These are their actual ratings, each player now has a FIDE blitz, rapid, and classical rating, if they have played those time controls.

Also the ratings for blitz displayed are correct.

If you want to find the rating of any particaular elite player go to http://www.2700chess.com/ and click on the graph icon near that players name. It'll take you to the official FIDE site with their rating progress.

As noted at the end of the article, where the players have blitz FIDE ratings, those have been used in place of their 'standard' ratings.

Poor levon, these bad performances are really eating away at his elo, maybe he should of stopped this year at London.

karjakin is at 2780 classical rating not 2877.  carlsen at 2861.4 though.

maybe fide has instituted their rapid ratings as well?
